MCDC Urges Volunteers to Steer Clear From Danger
The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, the premiere Minuteman border watch group with nationwide border patrols in all four southern border states and five states along the northern border with Canada (and growing!), will have our 24/7, month-long border watch muster in October. We will begin excavation for our high-tech security fencing, weather permitting, on Wednesday, August 30th.
The Minuteman Corps is not involved in the event described in the article below in Texas in September.
Law enforcement officials have expressed great concern that civilian patrols in this extremely dangerous drug corridor near Laredo, Texas, would inhibit their ability to do their jobs and put our Minutemen in a situation of grave risk.
The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps works closely with local law enforcement and Border Patrol to select locations for our patrols to augment their efforts and we will continue to act in a responsible manner to ensure the safety of all of our Minutemen at the borders. At the direct request of local law enforcement, members of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps are STRONGLY urged to stay away from this event that will make their jobs much more difficult and would place our members directly in the path of the international drug cartels as they battle each other and our law enforcement officers for control of the lucrative routes for bringing their poison into this country.
As for the statement in this article by TX State Rep. Richard Raymond calling all Minutemen racists, he should educate himself on the strict procedures, including background checks, performed by the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps to ensure our members have no other agenda than assisting law enforcement in securing our borders against illegal incursion. We at the Minuteman Corps reject the broad-brush, defamatory ignorance Rep. Raymond displays with his statements.
Sincerely,
Chris Simcox, President Minuteman Civil Defense Corps
Border Patrol chief doesn’t want Minutemen near agents [Laredo, Texas} LAREDO MORNING TIMES 08/24/2006 MIGUEL TIMOSHENKOV
The head of the Border Patrol said Wednesday he doesn’t want members of the Minuteman Project working near his agents when they come to the Laredo area next month. The civilian group, which reports illegal immigrants to immigration authorities, is expected to start patrolling the border in the Laredo area on Sept. 11 and continue through Nov. 7.
Acting Chief Patrol Agent Reynaldo Garza of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Laredo Sector said he can’t prevent the civilians from coming to Laredo, but said they won’t be allowed to interfere with official business.
John Cristian Esquivel, deputy chief, said the agency wants to know where the Minuteman members will be to avoid any problems.
“We’re not going to tell them what they can or can’t do. They are responsible for their own actions,” Esquivel said. “They can be on private property. It’s a matter of who will allow them to occupy their land.”
Texas Minuteman president Shannon McGauley said earlier this week that he expects as many as 2,000 people to participate in the weeks-long patrols. McGauley told the Associated Press that his group will only report illegal immigrant sightings to the Border Patrol and will not approach the immigrants or interfere with law officers.
He declined to say exactly where the members would be patrolling.
Esquivel said that if U.S. citizens should have any trouble with a member of the Minuteman Project, he or she should call the sheriff’s department or other law enforcement authority.
