TALK IS CHEAP, BUT PRESIDENT BUSH, YOURS IS WORTHLESS

PHOENIX, AZ— Chris Simcox, President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC) encourages all citizens to keep the pressure on the President and the U.S. Senate until the amnesty legislation introduced last week in the U.S. Senate is completely defeated in both houses of Congress and physical border security is implemented on all of our nation’s borders.  MCDC believes the Rose Garden remarks by the President today are a reaction to the pressure that Washington lawmakers are feeling from deep citizen outrage over the current amnesty legislation.

“Our elected officials and the President know that this legislation lacks the requisite border security provisions to make any of it fly, and now they are feeling the pressure from their constituents,” states Chris Simcox, founder and President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.  “No matter how many times the President goes on TV to try to peddle this legislation or congratulate the Senators who have chosen to compromise away our national security, the American people recognize a flim-flam, and they will rightfully keep demanding border security first.”

According to the Heritage Foundation, the economic impact of providing amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens is expected to exceed $2.5 trillion – a crippling number.  The President has utterly failed to address economic concerns and other real-world impacts associated with his wide open borders agenda.  The provisions of the legislation under debate today abandons U.S. citizen demands for physical border security in order to politically pander to the millions of illegal aliens already present within our nation and the millions more poised to flood the United States.

The Minutemen urge citizens to continue their daily calls to all Senate offices in order to voice their opposition to the amnesty bill, as well as to remind all Members of Congress to enforce the funding of a security fence on our nation’s borders that received passage last year in both the U.S. House and the Senate, and was signed into law by President Bush.  The funds appropriated for a fence have yet to be distributed and the Minutemen question the veracity of claims made by Washington lawmakers and bureaucrats that it will actually be spent on a physical fence, rather than a so-called “virtual fence” – and seek accountability as to how such a project is becoming yet another Washington boondoogle.

Simcox concludes, “the President claims that this ‘comprehensive’ plan is humane for the lawbreakers, but neglects to demonstrate humanitarian concern for the millions of legal U.S. citizens who suffer from the onslaught of illegal activity that invades our country through its porous borders.  This narrow-minded thinking places the concerns of big business and the open borders lobby above that of the average American citizen whose grandchildren will be suffering from the negative effects – the crime, violence, gangs and economic burdens – this policy will create.”

Efforts by the Minutemen and like-minded border security groups to advocate for enforcement and against amnesty have been successful throughout the last week, reminding Senators through their constituents that anything less than true border security will not be tolerated.   These efforts will continue until we truly have border security first.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC) is a peaceful, law-abiding and citizen-led initiative organized to stand watch at our borders and in our neighborhoods, report illegal activities to the proper authorities, and aid in the construction of border fencing on private lands using private donations.  Additionally, MCDC seeks to urge local and federal officials to enforce our immigration laws in order to keep our families and country safe.  MCDC conducts border watch operations that assist the activities of the U.S. Border Patrol, reports employers of illegal aliens, and advocates to keeps tax dollars from being used for illegal alien benefits.
