PHOENIX, AZ —The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC) began their semi-annual Fall border watch operation this past weekend, entitled “Secure America,” and successfully deterred illegal aliens from entering the United States via porous sections of the U.S.-Mexico border. The month long muster is concentrated throughout Arizona, California, Texas and Washington State, and will serve to demonstrate citizen support and appreciation for the work conducted by U.S. Border Patrol agents.
“Our presence on the border has caused a forty percent decrease in illegal crossings since we began border musters a few years ago,” states MCDC President and Founder Chris Simcox. “It is proof positive that if our government actually delivered as they have promised on increasing the number of border patrol agents and National Guard troops stationed on the U.S.-Mexico border, the deterrence factor could probably increase tenfold. This would be all the more certain after the construction of a physical border fence.”
In California, Minuteman volunteers observed a group of illegal entrants in vehicles on the south side of the Jewell Valley and called U.S. Border Patrol agents when the two vehicles approached from the north, thereby preventing their crossing. They also had at night a scout “coyote” approach within 50 feet of one Minuteman post, and volunteers filmed him for an hour with a thermal camera, even as he clearly conveyed information via cell phone to confederates before he spotted the camera and left their sector.
California Minuteman volunteers continue to be posted along that area’s borderline throughout the remainder of this week. The results of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps border watch for illegal alien activities include:
- Border Sightings – over 30,100
- Confirmed with U.S. Border Patrol – over 13,534 alien intruder apprehensions from 26 foreign countries
- Rescues – 310 saved from dying in the desert
- Five 30-day operations in five states totaling 750 days on Watch
- Seventy-two monthly weekend operations totaling 216 days on Watch
- Total days of Minutemen on Watch at the border 966 days
- 100 local chapters created in 50 states
- Minutemen on rolling Watch in local communities 365 days a year 24x7

Unlike the U.S. government, the Minutemen have for many months been implementing a plan for border security that is more than “virtual” and that includes an effective material barrier—by volunteering their time, energy and personal funds in order to build highly effective demonstration security fencing on private ranch land, expensed through private donations obtained from thousands of citizens nationally. To educate the public and force federal government attention to the realities of border security, Minuteman volunteers have taken steps to build this fence along the border utilizing state of the art technology with the fiber optic mesh produced by FOMGuard, USA, also currently in use on U.S. military installations, the DMZ in Korea and the West Bank in Israel, and recently featured in National Geographic magazine.
Simcox concludes, “Current federal policies already raise concerns that our broken borders serve as an open pathway to an increasing illegal alien migrant invasion. The reluctance by the federal government to secure our borders properly and enforce immigration laws will exacerbate a worsening situation of criminal cartel border incursions and “coyote” migrant-trafficking violence, which has been fed by irresponsible “amnesty” talk from the Bush Administration and Congress.”
