Minutemen Take Posts at US Border with Old Glory

CONTACT: John Unger, 610 624-1199

PHOENIX, AZ — Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC) volunteers are taking to America’s wide-open U.S. Border the entire month of April during “Operation Sovereignty,” their semi-annual Spring border watch operation, by posting 6,000 donated American Flags end-to-end in a formidable display of ‘Pride of Country’ with the intent to protect every heart that beats true 'neath the Red, White and Blue - a job our federal government refuses to do: secure our nation’s frontier against foreign invasion and international terrorism.

This April, during MCDC’s “Operation Sovereignty,” the sixth such month-long muster, MCDC volunteers are on around-the-clock border watch along the porous U.S. Border in Arizona, California, Texas and Washington State. It is a demonstration of citizen support and appreciation for the work conducted by agents of the U.S. Border Patrol, who are excessively exposed to increased violence since the United States Congress purposefully withdrew the much needed funding for the hundreds of miles of physical border fence, and advanced technology to reinforce the infrastructure at the U.S. Border, that President Bush promised when he signed the Secure Fence Act in October 2006.

This month-long peaceful vigilance will discourage illegal aliens from “demanding the ‘right’ to cross the borders unchecked and colonize these United States, flying foreign flags, and turning Old Glory upside down,” states Chris Simcox, MCDC President and Founder.

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that the number of illegal aliens apprehended along the U.S.– Mexico border is falling steeply, indicating that this decline is due in-part to beefed-up security deterring unauthorized crossings. The mere presence of the Minutemen has proven to be a powerful dissuading presence to those who try to illegally enter our country along the largely unprotected border.  The U.S Border Patrol statistics show that the number of illegal alien apprehensions dropped 17% between October 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008, from the same period the previous year.

MCDC California Operations have already reported 68 illegal aliens were sighted by Minutemen, and apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol.

“As long as the Minutemen continue their patriotic mission, there will be no ‘Welcome Mat’ out for the lawless on our nation’s borders; the Minutemen will be working night and Day on America’s borders to uphold the rule of law in the name of liberty.  President Bush and Congress have failed America.  Their deliberate refusal to protect this country has wreaked havoc in our border states, continuing to permit the invasion of over 2,000 illegal entrants daily who are demonstrating extreme reproach of law and order, and leaving our families vulnerable to terrorist infiltration and attack. It remains up to the independent national authority of the American people to secure our borders until such time as the federal government performs its constitutional duty to so and protect our country against Invasion.” stated MCDC President Chris Simcox.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC) is a peaceful, law-abiding and citizen-led initiative organized to stand watch at our borders and in our neighborhoods, report illegal activities to the proper authorities, and aid in the construction of border fencing on private lands using private donations. Additionally, MCDC seeks to urge local and federal officials to enforce our immigration laws in order to keep our families and country safe. MCDC conducts border watch operations that assist the activities of the U.S. Border Patrol, reports employers of illegal aliens, and advocates to keeps tax dollars from being used for illegal alien benefits.
