In a recent email to the troops I reminded them that the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps is the Nation's Largest Neighborhood Watch Group. North California Volunteers proved it by stepping up in their local community during a time of crisis. Here is Steve's account of the event:
I wanted to let you know that we had a mini crisis at Petaluma High School today when a youth on MySpace sent a message last night to many students that he was going to set a new record for school shootings with a body count of 34. Over 90% of the student body left the campus because the principal refused to lock down the school. I contacted the Captain on duty of the Petaluma P.D. and informed him that we would have Minutemen present at the campus on Thursday to be their eyes and ears in the event that the shooter was delaying his assault. I was able to rally five Minutemen in the area to volunteer their services as members of the nations largest neighborhood watch group. Their names are;
The police apprehended the suspect and garnered a full confession. He is a juvenile in Up State New York who "was bored" and conducted this prank at several schools around the world. Although the crisis did not occur, I would like to applaud those Minutemen that stepped up to the plate in support of a local community during a potential crisis. It demonstrates to local law enforcement and the community that we are here to serve the best interest of its citizens.
I would like to take this time to congratulate Steve Giraud and his team at NORCAL Minutemen!
