The Patriot Ledger
SOUTH WEYMOUTH — Now let me get this straight: Cape Cod business owners cannot find anyone except H-2B visa holders to work for them?
Is this really what Sen. Edward Kennedy wants us all to believe, or is this just another attempt to push his failed and terrible so-called Immigration reform bill?
Remember the great “reform bill” he shoved through in 1986?
Has that worked so well that we need another?
In today’s economic situation, there are no American citizens willing and wanting to work on Cape Cod?
How about a pro-active approach to this job search, band together, contact both high schools and colleges from as far away as Plymouth; put bus routes together that leave; and return to a central point off Cape where people can save both time and gas – and, yes, go to work?
Would it be such a shock for Kennedy to be served his lobster by an American citizen?
I am sure there are plenty of students who do not intend to either go away or further their education and would love the opportunity to have a job, learn a trade, or just enter a training program.
There are no doubt adults with the same goals just looking for the chance and the paycheck.
Try the novel approach, and network as well as send Kennedy the message – time to retire.
He can spend the rest of his time in Hyannisport chasing windmills, like Don Quixote.
