Legal Defense Appeal for the City of Hazleton
Mayor Lou Barletta of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, needs your support. He has courageously opposed the growing illegal alien presence in his community, particularly the high crime rate it has brought.
To deal with the problem, Mayor Barletta and the Hazleton City Council initiated ordinances to penalize businesses that hire illegal aliens and landlords who rent to them. The city also made English its language for official business.
The passage of these laws sent a message to illegal aliens in Hazleton, and many of them left town. Unfortunately, well-heeled illegal alien lobbies struck back against the will of Hazleton's citizens. Specifically, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Educational Fund brought suit to stop enforcement of Hazleton's laws, and a federal judge upheld them. No less determined than before, Mayor Barletta said that the city will appeal the case to the Supreme Court if that is necessary.
Legal action is expensive. Please help Hazleton by contributing to the city's legal defense fund. One way to do so is going to the website www.smalltowndefenders.com and donating via credit card through click and pledge. (This is a secure site.) Contributions also may be made by check, payable to City of Hazleton Legal Defense Fund, c/o Mayor Lou Barletta, 40 North Church Street. Hazelton, PA 18201. |
